| On Tuesday, May 12, 2009 Hidalgo Early College High School and Ida Diaz Junior High Presented its 1st Annual Percussion Extravaganza directed by Ron F. Schermerhorn III and assisted by Eduardo Barrera. The Concert repertoire included: Tubz-Josh Gottry, Vespertine Formations-Christopher Deane, Strike, Shake, & Stomp-George Frock, Mo Java- Lalo Davila, Sharpened Stick -Brett William Dietz and Mosaics-Jared Spears. Guest Artists featured were Dr. Lisa Nicol (Assistant Professor of Percussion at Del Mar College, Corpus Christi) and Dr. Matthew McClung (Assistant Professor of Percussion at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi). Works presented by this duo included: Toccata-Andres Koppel, Table of Contents-David Lang and La Negra-traditional arranged by Matthew McClung. The concert finished with Hidalgo’s newly formed Japanese Taiko Ensemble performing “Taik Five” composed by Scott Domingue-Assistant Band Director/Percussion at Acadiana High School Lafayette, LA. In addition to an exciting year overall for Hidalgo, the percussion ensemble has also been invited to perform at the Music for All-Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival held in Indianapolis, Indiana-March 4-6, 2010. |
